Cosmological Argument from Plato to Leibnitz
Published in Textbook Binding by Barnes & Noble (May, 1980)
Author: William Lane Craig
Average review score:

Very Hard Book to Find, But Well Worth the Search
This is one of Craig's first books and, I believe, one of his more interesting books. Craig Begins with Plato and walks through the cosmology and metaphysics of Aristotle, the Arabic philosophers (i.e. Kalam), Jewish philosophers, Aquinas (i.e. five ways, etc.), John Duns Scotus, Spinoza, and Leibniz. He covers each of these thinkers views on cosmology, creation, metaphysics, and their various arguments in support of their philosophies. Craig's writing style is direct and easy to follow which makes for a good read. The contents of the book are not too complicated and thus Craig has (or had rather)the potential of a fairly wide audience. Some of the strengths of the book, I thought, were the chapters that dealt with the Arabic philosophers (this may be since I do not know a whole lot about this area of philosophy and this section was very helpful), and the chapter titled "Typology of Cosmological Arguments." In this latter chapter Craig goes through certain arguments that have arisen against philosophers such as Hume and Kant, and then he delineates the types of arguments that have been used throughout the history of philosophy (i.e. kalam, Leibnizian, etc.). He discusses errors that have arisen regarding certain cosmological arguments, explains how they occurred, etc. Of course, Craig is in favor of the kalam cosmological argument, and this can be seen sprinkled throughout the text (and the chapter on the Arabic philosophers is the longest in the whole book). Nonetheless, this is a nice assessment of several various arguments in the history of philosophy regarding the cosmological argument. If you can get Amazon to find this book you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this book. I wish someone would reprint it.

WONDERFUL BOOK AND PICTURES WITH PRACTICAL INFORMATION
THIS EXCELLENT BRITISH BOOK LISTS OLD-FASHIONED ANNUALS FROM A TO Z. IT OFFERS THE READER INTERESTING HISTORICAL INFORMATION ON EACH PLANT AND DISCUSSES GROWTH HABITS AND PLANTING SUGGESTIONS. THE BOOK SERVES AS A GREAT PLANTING GUIDE AND A MARVELOUS PICTORIAL REFERENCE. I KNOW OF NO OTHER BOOK OF ITS KIND.

The Cottage Gardener's Companion: A Seasonal Guide to Plants & Plantings for Informal Gardens
Published in Hardcover by David & Charles (December, 1994)
Authors: Clive Lane, Pat Taylor, Pat Collison, Cottage Garden Society (Great Britain), and Cottage Garden Society

Especially helpful for gardeners wanting winter flowers.
My wife and I are greatly impressed by the historical tidbits offered throughout the book on each plant, such as "Napoleon always gave a bunch of violets to Josephine on their wedding anniversary, and after he died a few dried violet flowers were found in his locket along with a lock of her hair. In folklore the violet is the symbol of fidelity." I have been looking for plants than can extend our growing and flowering season in Denver, Colorado throughout the winter and in a protected area we were able to see our first blooms in mid-January with the help of this book. Also helpful are the listing of latin names and common names for each plant and a listing of "Sources of Plants" in case your local garden center doesn't stock them. This book is fun reading-almost like a novel.

Lots of creative ideas and kids love the final products
The ideas in the book are creative and original. It is hard to decide which craft to do first. My kids really enjoy these books and I have lots of other craft books but we always end up picking something out of the "wild about" series.

Crafts for Kids Who Are Wild About Outer Space
Finally a crafts book geared to boys (and girls). My son loves space flight, planets and aliens. This book provides tips for crafts in all three areas. This is the first crafts book I found, for young children, that is geared towards girls and boys. The crafts are easy to do and use common household items.

Crafts for Kids Who Are Wild About Rainforests

Super Hands on book
This is a great book for children about third grade level. It does have a few activities that younger kids could do with a little head start. It has great step by step instructions and pictures. Most are things that can be recylcled and are inexpensive items. The ideas don't necessarily have to be related to the rainforest. Just an all around great book for hands on learning.

Customs Modernization and the International Trade Superhighway
Published in Hardcover by Quorum Books (June, 1998)
Author: Michael H. Lane
Average review score:

A "must read" book for Customs practioners and businessmen!
I served as the Commissioner of the U.S. Customs Service from 1993 until 1997 and was actively involved in efforts to modernize the organization, with the goal of making it the most efficient and effective customs administration in the world. I regret that this book was not available during my tenure as Commissioner. The book is a virtual road map that outlines in a clear, concise and organized manner the step-by-step approach that would, if properly followed, lead any Customs organization to world class status. The book is an absolute must read for anyone currently in a leadership position in a Customs administration anywhere in the world. But it is also very useful for anyone who has an interest in seeing products and services moved freely and quickly into and out of countries around the world with a minimum of red tape, but in a manner that is consistent with national and international law.

The Deaf Experience: Classics in Language and Education
Published in Hardcover by Harvard Univ Pr (September, 1984)
Authors: Harlan Lane and Franklin Philip
Average review score:

This book could well be required reading for all teachers.
My interest in finding this book was heightened as a result of reading "Seeing Voices" by Oliver Sacks. Overcoming the challange of sourcing the text resulted in nothing short of total exhileration as each chapter revealed the dedication, focus, determination and clarity of purpose displayed by these many wonderful people. Reading this book now, at the turn of the century and realizing it is written between 150 and 220 years ago as leading edge thinking is truely a humbling experience. That Franklin Philip and Harlan Lane with the cooperation of Harvard University Press have presented this work for English language readers is indicative of a continuation of the integrity and responsibility to others so kindly exercised in addressing the concerns of less fortunate individuals in earlier times.
